ABOUT US

The TAC is about making tennis more accessible. By fundraising and building relationships with local businesses and tennis centers, we can offer programs that give tennis lessons and equipment to those that can’t afford it or who would be turned away by the cost.

Why Tennis?

Tennis is a unique sport in that it challenges you as an individual, even when others are on the court. It’s about your focus, your skill, your effort. It builds your character by challenging you not only physically, but mentally. Tennis helps you build a balance between confidence, determination, focus, and resilience.

Core Values

Support Court Maintenance

The TAC is dedicated to funding various court maintenance projects throughout the low country courts. These are projects that fall outside the normal budget. For example, let’s say there is a tennis facility in need of new nets, wind screens, resurfacing, more shade structures, and/or facility upgrades like locker room improvements. The facility can only pay for the nets. The TAC can help provide funds for those other needs, improving the player/member and staff experience.

Player Sponsorship

Tennis is an expensive sport. Costs include equipment such as shoes, rackets, and balls; fees to pay for court rentals, non-member clinics, summer/fall camps, team registrations, and private lessons. The TAC provides free or discounted equipment and/or tennis-related fees so that those that want to play the sport can do so without the financial burden it can bring.

Founders Statement

I moved to Charleston in 2018 and it wasn’t until 2022 that I found my place and it turned out to be in the tennis community. Tennis has totally changed my life for the better and I want others to have the chance to experience that, no matter their age or financial status. I started by taking tennis clinics, then joining a USTA league, and then captaining my own teams. The sport led to me having more friends, more drive, and more confidence. The idea for the TAC started when I wanted my local tennis center to host a tournament. I ended up planning it and dedicated the proceeds to providing more shade at some city-owned tennis courts. “Serving Shade” inspired me to start a tennis-based nonprofit designed to enhance and grow the Charleston tennis community that has given me so much. I hope to make a difference with this organization.
